How To Work For Two Employers At One Time In Dubai, UAE?

An employee can now work a part-time job while he is also doing a full-time job, subject to certain customary conditions.

There are provisions in the UAE labor law explaining the entire procedure on how one person can have two jobs in the UAE.

Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization introduced a new program that allows Emiratis and foreign employees to work with two or more separate employers without gaining permission from the first employer.

Instead the employee needs to acquire a permit from the ministry that will allow the employee to accept employment from two or more employers. The law associated to such cases states that if the employee works a part-time contract of less than eight hours per day, the employee is to be given at least one day off per week.

About the permit

a. You can obtain the permit for part-time work for an application fee of AED 100 and an additional approval fee of AED 500.

b. The permit acquired from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization is valid for one year.

c. The ministerial fee for the primary employer would range from AED 150 to AED 2,000, while the secondary employer would be required to pay AED 100.

d. For those who work on two jobs illegally without a permit, a fine of AED 50,000 will be applied to the hiring company, pursuant to the federal law, in addition to other penalties in case of repeating the offence.

The laws do not change nor does the facilities that need to be provided by the primary employer to its employees. The employers are obligated to provide the company sponsored benefits, annual leaves and other financial bonds according to the amount of actual work hours and income that specified the contract of the employee. The law clearly states that a part-time contract cannot be changed into a full-time one unless it is terminated.

a. Do you need permission from my employer or sponsor?

c. This provides workers to increase their income while staying within the legal boundaries.

d. This has also allowed entrepreneurs and workers with an opportunity to upskill themselves.

e. The freedom is in favor of the workers as well as the companies who need to pay less to those working part-time for them.

b. What are the limitations?

There are some limitations when it comes to additional part-time work that is being done by an employee.
